As part of the ISA scientific program, the M2P2 team has invited Yves Dumont (CIRAD) to give a seminar on Tuesday (06/13) at 11am on the Inria site (gray Lagrange room) on the following topic:

Abstract :

I will present some results of recent work in mathematical epidemiology, with a first focus on a problem of co-infection, in relation to lethal necrosis of maize, where we study, via a mathematical model, the transmission of two viruses by two vectors and the synergistic interaction that leads to lethal necrosis of maize. My second focus will be on the impact of vector preferences in the propagation and control of certain vector-borne diseases in crops. Using mathematical analysis, I will show how vector preferences influence the qualitative properties of the temporal and spatio-temporal model. In particular, I'll highlight the existence of propagation waves, for which I'll try to estimate the (minimum) velocity as a function of vector preferences. The implications in terms of control strategies will be discussed. Through these two examples, and without going into technical details, my aim is to highlight the interest of using mathematical modelling, and the power of certain analysis tools, to study such problems, at least those arising from plant epidemiology, which offers many challenges from the point of view of Applied Mathematics.
