"R&D Strategy for Global Warming"

09 June 2023

Sophia Antipolis - INRAE PACA - A010

As part of the ISA scientific program, the ID team has invited Hee-Tae Jung, Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST), to give a seminar on Friday June 9 at 11 a.m. in room A010 on the following topic:

Abstract :

Climate change is an urgent global problem that needs to be addressed and requires immediate attention. Here, we discuss R&D Strategy for resolving climate change issues. This includes green hydrogen production, highly efficient solar cell, highly stable artificial-photo-synthesis, CCU breakthrough, eco-friendly greenhouse gas storage technology, future battery with safety and high capacity, energy harvesting, optimization of energy cloud system, highly accurate climate prediction with AI, and self-generation such as piezo-electric, thermo-electric. Breakthrough of recent technology can provide opportunities to develop efficient CO2 capture and conversion system using solar and electrical energy where innovative ideas would bring the possibility to tackle climate change. However, in R&D viewpoints, there are so many challenges to overcome global warming in very limited time. We discuss such challenges in this seminar.

Prof. Hee-Tae Jung received his Ph. D. degree in Macromolecular Science & Engineering from Case Western Reserve University (USA) in 1998. He is KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) Chair professor in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Director of KAIST-Saudi Aramco CO2 management Center, Director of SK on-KAIST Battery Education Program, and Vice-President of Korean Environmental Science Society. He is currently Associate editor of ACS sensors, and leading the KAIST-UC Berkeley-Vietnam National University Climate Change Global Research Development Center. His research interests include advanced materials for climate change, and advanced materials for high performance opto-electronic devices, and published ~300 SCI papers in prominent international journals.
