As part of the scientific activities of the Institut Sophia Agrobiotech, IPO team invite Martin Mandl, professor at Masaryk University (Brno, République Tchèque): "Impact of oxygen demand on culture aeration (bioprocesses and oxygen limitation"

Abstract

From laboratory flasks to bioreactors; biochemical, biotechnological and economical consequences for aerobic cultures and their aeration intensity.
The volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient and the Michaelis constant for oxygen are the parameters of aeration and oxygen limitation, respectively. The critical values of volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient and oxygen concentration to define the conditions necessary for minimum aeration and to eliminate oxygen limitation will be exemplified for the cultures of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, an example of applications. Our results with the above bacteria can serve as an universal example and can constitute the basis for useful procedures for oxygen transfer determination.
