As part of the ISA scientific event to be held on Friday May 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. in room A010, Thomas Guillemaud, Director of Research in the BPI team, will present :

Abstract :

We'll describe the issue of low statistical power in scientific research, particularly in fields such as agronomy, ecology, neuroscience. We'll highlight the paradox wherein most published studies report positive results despite being based on experimental designs with inadequate power — often insufficient to detect true effects reliably. The presentation emphasizes that low power not only increases the likelihood of false negatives, but also the rate of false positives and over estimates of effect sizes. The talk suggests some solutions.
