"Studying ageing as a two-phase process"

"Studying ageing as a two-phase process"

28 June 2024

Sophia Antipolis - INRAE PACA - A010

As part of the ISA scientific event taking place this Friday June 28 at 11:00 am in room A010, the BES team invites Michael Rera from Université Paris Cité.

Abstract :

"The working definition of ageing is that of a time-dependent process accompanied by a progressive alteration of living organisms' biological processes, ultimately leading to an increasing risk to death. But what if ageing was not a continuous process? We have developed a novel framework for studying ageing, considering it a two-phase process where each phase has distinct molecular and physiological properties. Separated by an abrupt transition detectable in vivo thanks to the Smurf phenotype, this framework allows us to reconsider broadly accepted notions regarding ageing."
