"OpenMetBar & BarCodeR: two complementary tools for metabarcoding"

06 March 2026

11:00 am - Sophia Antipolis - INRAE PACA

As part of the ISA scientific event taking place this Friday, 6 March at 11 a.m. in room A010, Sophia Marguerit, PlantBios research engineer, IDMABIO, and Matéo Léger-Pigout, PlantBios postdoctoral researcher, BIG, will present their work:

Abstract :

Metabarcoding is a powerful molecular approach for characterising the taxonomic composition of biological communities (bacteria, archaea, eukaryotes). However, the diversity of tools in this field often complicates the process of data processing, analysis and visualisation. This complexity can lead to increased implementation time and compromise reproducibility.

As part of this seminar, we will present two tools currently under development: a Nextflow pipeline and an RShiny application, designed to simplify this analysis chain. These solutions not only enable efficient processing of metabarcoding data (from fastq files to phyloseq objects), but also allow for intuitive analysis and visualisation of results (from phyloseq objects to results and figures). Used in conjunction, these two tools are ultimately intended to offer significant time savings and improved reproducibility of metabarcoding analyses.
